Boston Bicycle Club is established.

Founded by G.B. Woodward and others [Augustus Pope/83 Summer St.-Harris], it is located at 53 Union Park [87 Boylston]. The first bicycle club in the U.S., it subsequently sponsors the first bicycle race. The club adopts uniforms consisting of a gray jacket, shirt, breeches, and stocking and a blue cap. It moves to a clubhouse at 87 Boylston Street, then moves to the corner of Tremont and Union Park Streets in 1885.
